Worried that the WWW has you in its Web? Overwhelmed by indiscriminate surveillance, digital harassment, or security leaks of personal identification? You are not alone! Cryptoparties are a space for people of all technical skills to share skills and learn from each other about online privacy protection.

Happy Holircraze!

For the last Cypurr Session of the year, we have put together a list of privacy-stealing things that should NOT be on your holiday gift list (or at the very least, keep your receipts).

We will have a workshop on apps you can give yourself and your loved ones to keep privacy and security safe in the New Year, and we will have a fun game of “Are You In Jeopardy” that will be based on big privacy and security news from the past year. Come play, learn and be merry!

2/3 to Grand Army Plaza or Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum, or B41 bus. The Info Commons lab and other parts of the library (including bathrooms) are wheelchair accessible.

Why CryptoParty?

Privacy is the space in which ideas are developed, to retreat into whenever you want. This space is not only physical but digital as well. Governments and companies don't want to respect that so we become active ourselves.

What is a CryptoParty?

CryptoParties are free and open for everyone, but especially those without prior knowledge, who haven't yet attended one.

CryptoParty is a decentralized movement with events happening all over the world. The goal is to pass on knowledge about protecting yourself in the digital space. This can include encrypted communication, preventing being tracked while browsing the web and general security advice for computers and smartphones.

To try the programs and apps at the CryptoParty bring your laptop or smartphone.

What is The CyPurr Colective?

The CyPurr Collective (formerly CryptoSquad NYC) is a group of some tech-minded folks who are very jazzed about cybersecurity, cats, and helping folks out with their digital dilemmas. We offer workshops for activists, journalists, educators, and everyday folks who want to up their encryption game! Additionally, we offer personal security audits for groups/organizations who are concerned about their cyber-safety. Plus, we have some of the kewlest CryptoParties!
