Worried that the WWW has you in its Web? Overwhelmed by indiscriminate surveillance, digital harassment, or security leaks of personal identification? You are not alone! Cryptoparties are a space for people of all technical skills to share skills and learn from each other about online privacy protection.

The internet gives us the ability to be anonymous and conceal our identities, at a cost to transparency. For decades people have taken advantage of this fact to launch elaborate scams over telephone, email, and social media. These tactics normally are deployed to gain money, information, or simply harass people. This workshop will focus on tips to spot potential scammers and skills to keep your data, funds, and sanity secure.

The CyPurr Collective is a group of some tech-minded folks who are very jazzed about cybersecurity, cats, and helping folks out with their digital dilemmas. We offer workshops for activists, journalists, educators, and everyday folks who want to up their encryption game!

2/3 to Grand Army Plaza or Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum, or B41 bus. The Info Commons lab and other parts of the library (including bathrooms) are wheelchair accessible.

Why CryptoParty?

Privacy is the space in which ideas are developed, to retreat into whenever you want. This space is not only physical but digital as well. Governments and companies don't want to respect that so we become active ourselves.

What is a CryptoParty?

CryptoParties are free and open for everyone, but especially those without prior knowledge, who haven't yet attended one.

CryptoParty is a decentralized movement with events happening all over the world. The goal is to pass on knowledge about protecting yourself in the digital space. This can include encrypted communication, preventing being tracked while browsing the web and general security advice for computers and smartphones.

To try the programs and apps at the CryptoParty bring your laptop or smartphone.
