“Organise organically and chaotically. Have no clear leadership. Urge people to take on a sudo leadership role.”

Intro

Learn to secure your online communication!
Governments around the world, are greatly increasing their surveillance of the Internet. This also represents a clear danger to basic civil liberties alongside the loss of the private sphere. We already have the solution: encrypting communications makes it very hard, if not entirely impossible, for others to eavesdrop on our conversations.“ (Source)

So let's go and have a party, and teach each other how to use crypto! Cause its also fun to play around, and shape the place you are living in!

What?

  • sva will give an introduction into basic usage principles of encryption and some of the usual ways to encrypt communication online.
  • have your hands-on all your devices, install software, generate keys and learn how to use them. Be surprised how easy some things are; but you might also start ranting about some others and start thinking about how to make it better. We are the ones how can actually do that.
  • Special challenge for latenight geeking, if someone is up for: PGP/GPG subkeys.

Date?

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

Time?

We unfortunately only have the weekday, but for having hands-on and introduction and the party… we need to start early. For the advantage for the non-students outside willing to find the time for the introduction to gain some compressed knowledge, I propose the following:

  • 5pm: email encryption (PGP/GPG) + hands-on-all-devices
  • 7pm: main introduction / overview
  • 8pm: hands-on (open end)

If 5pm is too early for you, pls mention in the list below, or answer @sva.

Place?

Room CS101, Department of CSE, IIT Kanpur. Pls add your name below that we know how many people would come.

Who?

Everyone is invited! Do not hesitate to join if you don't crypto at all, but even more important if you are already an expert!

Bring your friends! Bring the ones you are communicating the most. Crypto only works end-to-end…
