SCHEDULE

6.30 - 7pm: Entry, welcome!

7.30pm - 8.15pm: WORKSHOPS - Round 1

  • Digital trail chasing: using open source intelligence techniques to find how much information is public about you and your friends. (SpyBlog @spyblog)
  • Encrypted communications: how to use GnuPG, Signal, and other privacy enhancing technologies to protect your communications; includes a gentle intro to public-key cryptography. (Damien @gouttegd)
  • Web scraping and intro to coding for journos: learn how to extract information from web pages in a safe, efficient (and fun!) way with Python. (Valerio @ValerioCamp, Tom @cijournalism)
  • 1-2-1 sessions: a series of 1-2-1, ask-us-anything sessions - for all those questions left unanswered by your favourite infosec tutorial. (Marios @misaakidis, Silkie @silkiecarlo, Fabio @fnstudio)

8.30pm: LIGHTNING TALKS

  • On the governance of cryptocurrencies: Decentralised cryptocurrencies promise a radical shift away from traditional financial institutions. It is unclear, however, to what extent this theoretical promise of decentralization and transparency has been achieved in practice. The enforcement and creation of the rules may not be as decentralized and transparent as originally intended. This talk will give an overview of the current structure of governance of cryptocurrencies and discuss their centralisation level with a few historical examples. Sarah Azouvi @sarahazouvi
  • Technopolicing: Dystopian policing in the age of technology. The police are using new ‘smart’ technologies to watch us, find us, predict crimes, and decide whether we go to prison and for how long – and there is huge potential for even more increased bias, leading to over-policing, wrongful arrests, and unjust sentences. Griff Ferris, @g__ferris

9 - 9.45pm: WORKSHOPS - Round 2

  • Choose another session to participate in - all workshops repeat in round 2!

10pm: MUSIC

  • DJ set by rjhode
